​Stowe Resort has announced that “Uphill access is currently CLOSED on all portions of Stowe Mountain Resort until further notice”, leaving a lot of local residents who had hoped to escape their home for some mountain air adjusting their plans.

The following town services are closed through April 15th at least, according to Governor Scott's stay-at-home order. 
  • Stowe Visitor Information Center: Closed until further notice. For visitor information, reservations, and area recommendations, please call (800) 467-8693 or see GoStowe.com.
  • Stowe Free Library, Stowe Recreation Programs, Stowe Arena: Closed until further notice.
  • Stowe Public Safety Facility: Closed to the public and all personnel who are not on duty; available by phone.
  • Town Hall & Municipal Offices: Closed to public except where necessary by appointment.

Can out-of-staters come to hotels and second homes?

How the stimulus package will affect Vermont

Vermont is anticipated to receive approximately $2 billion from the emergency COVID-19 emergency spending package. The bill is expected to be approved by the House of Representatives today (Friday, March 27). The U.S. Senate voted 96-0 early Thursday morning to approve the federal disaster relief fund, designed to give federal funding to businesses and hospitals and increase unemployment benefits.

Seven Days shared the disappointing news about the Waterbury Record closing its press and the vulnerability of local papers to the coronavirus. 
"Clearly, this decision is precipitated by the coronavirus crisis, but it's also about economics," the story quoted publisher Greg Popa as saying. "The Record has never been profitable, but we were in this for the long haul."
